Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, Clark Gable and Rock Hudson. I 've always idolised these Hollywood super stars. These men all had distinctive looks about them, handsome, elegant and definitely the way they dressed.
When I was young, I often wondered where they find all those distinguish outfits., nice suits and pants. I still love the way they dressed in those classic movies like "Roman Holiday," "To Catch A Thief "and "Come September". I must say the store we found in Melbourne during our last business trip was really cool. The store was just like you'd find in those classic movies.
Show Room
"Captains of Industry" is a Gentlemen's Outfitter and Cafe in the Melbourne CBD tucked away in Somerset Place.
The founders of this cool place are Thom Grogan and James Roberts. These two guys love suits, shoes, coffee and whiskey. Thom is a Tailor (Statler & Waldorf) and James is a bespoke shoe-maker (JS Roberts). My first visit was quite amazing, I felt like I'd stepped back into the past and shared the experience with my Hollywood idols.
The café is all white-washed walls and fitted out with elegant wooden furniture. It has a view looking out onto Elizabeth Street. Thom's studio feels as though it could be in a scene from a classic movie and for James' workshop was like the traditional shoe-maker that my parents took me to get my shoes made when I was a child. I loved the look of the workshop and the smell of rich leather.

Stuart and I really enjoyed our visit. There was something about this place. It felt great to be there, and it was so inviting. We wanted to stay and have a cup of coffee and even a bite to eat. Check out the menu here.
And next time I might want to get a traditional haircut just like the old movies too...
