A commission is
the hiring and payment for the creation of a piece of art or design, often on
behalf of your client.
Throughout
history, it has been common for rulers and governments to commission public art
as a means of demonstrating power and wealth, or even for specific propaganda
purposes.
As an Artist you
will come across where your client might commission you to do a painting
according to their theme and colours. This is where you have a mission to
deliver their vision. You need to understand what they want in a painting and
create a painting that sums up their interpretation.
Once good aspect
of commission work is you can charge your fee at a high rate, this is because
you are creating an artwork just for them.
Some artists we have
coached are specialised in only doing commission paintings only. Some of our
fashion designers are also doing special theatrical costumes or evening
gowns. These type of commission works can be demanding and time consuming,
therefore you need to charge at a higher rate.
