Richard Sibbald, who is one of Canada’s most recognized top fashion photographers as well as David Wile, also a photographer - both who are good friends of mine. They produce unique and original results. Sasha Moric is also a close friend whose taken me under his wing and helped me a lot on the technical side of filming.

Where do you get your inspiration from when you  do your shoot?
Mostly from my dreams.

 Kim & Rob

As an Artist, what is your biggest frustration?
When a client doesn't take any of my creative ideas and the end result has my name on it. When I become more successful in my own business, this will NOT be the case. Oh what joy :)
Tell us about how you prioritise your work studio.
Always keeping a head start and keeping clients happy by delivering finished products as soon as possible. My own personal work always comes second.

Can you please tell us about how do you connect with other artists, and your audiences (i.e. how do you network)?
Every single one of my friends are creative in there own minds, and ways.

What advice can you offer other creative people who are just starting out and following their passions?
If you find something (songs, book, poem etc.) that inspires you, Follow whatever thought it gave you. Simple as that :)

What dreams do you still want to achieve or fulfil in your life?
Without a doubt, I still would like to be in front of the camera. Acting is more difficult then people imagine it to be. An incredibly hard job. You have to put lots of thoughts, feelings into your acting to be a great actor.  I respect that a lot.

Moby Oh Yeah

John Malkovich. He does so much amazing theatre and nothing is scarier then performing live in front of an audience.

What is the most important lesson in life that you have learned?
To really pay attention to everything and anything around you. To just STOP once and a while. Sigh everyday, it's good for you :)

But No Elephants! It's a great children's book I love.

Do you have a System & Process in your Art & Design Business?

Are you still struggling to achieve the success that you desire in your Art & Design business?

Don’t worry, you are not alone. You are facing the same challenges that most Artists and Designers are facing right now.

The real truth is that these challenges will come up all the time whether your business is in an up or a down turn.

Would you like to know Why?

·         It’s because you still haven’t found a system and process that matches you and your business needs.

·         You still have yet to develop the business skill set required to be a successful business lifestyle owner.

·         What you have acquired right now is the skill set to be a successful worker NOT a successful business owner.

So do you know what the difference between a worker and a business owner’s skills and mind sets are?

A Successful Business owner is a leader and he/she works “On and Above” their business practice. While a worker (an employee) is a follower most likely working in the business most of the time. One works ON the vision and the other works IN the vision.

So if you have yet to establish the process to get you what you desire most out of your business lifestyle. I encourage you to find a system and process now.

At Quantum Compass-ArtSHINE our clients understand how critical it is to have a System & Process in place.

Therefore we work with you to establish a System & Process that suits your art and design business.

Our clients understand that no matter what their business is there are 8 crucial steps that they must have if they wish to achieve what they desire most from their business.

  1. Learn The OPIC System
  2. Set Purpose Goals
  3.  Plan of action
  4. Execution of the plan
  5. Review the plan
  6. Cashflow projection
  7. Stakeholders Alignment
  8. Investing on yourself & Team
Want to learn more about Systems & Processes and take your business to the next level?
It’s as simple as 1... 2... 3...

2: Come along to the next “Goal Setting” workshop. E-mail Quantum Compass (insert link: GoalSetting@QuantumCompass.com.au ) for details of the next half day session near you.

Mindset Affects Your Business – Are you sabotaging yourself?

Approximately 70 per cent of small businesses will never grow or make a huge profit. Do you want to know why?

Sometimes it’s all down to you and your ego that’s stopping you from reaching your true potential.

So – how do you achieve substantial business growth?

In order to be a success with your art and design business you need to think like a successful business owner too. It is all about your mind set and how you see yourself and your business.

Your beliefs are powerful.

Beliefs affect your ability to see opportunities, and they affect your mood, your risk-taking and ultimately your success. Many people have beliefs that limit them, beliefs that just aren’t true, but that you hold onto anyway.

Here's an example: a lot of creative businesses will stop their minds to growth and success because they think "I have been in business for a long time and I know everything there is to know about my industry." - The big ego thinking approach.

If you think you know everything, you will give yourself a chance of learning nothing at all. That is a mindset you set yourself from not learning and receiving something new.

In fact we learn something new every single day from observing around us, and learning from one another. However if you choose to narrow your focus amid the day to day challenges of running your business, you are stopping yourself from discovering the wealth of amazing achievements awaiting you just around the other side.

So leverage time to learn from your peers and colleagues and particularly your competitors. Allocate time to learn about successful businesses and investing in some quality time at related workshops, seminars and trade shows or work along with a business coach or a mentor who can help you grow. You'll be surprised at how much information and inspiration you can receive.

Think and Act like a Super Star!

Every successful entrepreneur thinks like a superstar star. They believe in themselves and, more importantly, they invest in themselves and in their business, they are always open and they are not scared to take some calculated risks.

Everyone knows about Coco Chanel, a visionary who turned herself from a business woman and dressmaker into an enduring fashion and cultural icon. She changed the fashion world in her time because Coco never stopped experimenting, always challenged herself out of her comfort zone in developing and designing world breaking fashion.

Another iconic successful businessman, Richard Branson has triumphed over the world by using lateral and innovative thinking. The business world would not be the same today if he wasn't as open-minded and adventurous as he is. We need to challenge ourselves and do things that are out of our comfort zone.

Sometimes we hold on to things too tight and we won’t let go like having our fingers so firmly rested on the pulse of our business that we are unable to see things for how they really are.

So remember... think outside the square!

Let yourself loose once in a while and be the observer in your business.

So think big and act bigger!

I am a Fashion designer and Artist. Currently I design Bridal, ballroom and Latin dance wear!

Villy's Wedding

Who (or what) inspires you to do what you love in your own creative business?
Everything inspires me at the moment, I try to extract everything I see or feel! I think i'ts good to be humble and take as much in as possible, good and bad as the outcome is always slightly twisted. I have a lot of inspirations  like my family and friends, designers  like Vivienne Westwood ,Chanel, Christian Dior, Gaultier, Mcqueen, Comme des Garcons, theres are so many! I absolutely love Erte, Norman Lindsay  and currently really inspired by beautiful Sarah Joncas  to Frederic Taubes.

 Current Artworks

Where do you get your inspiration from when you design/paint?
Actually when I design or paint I  really use my creative sources  in my head. Then pen to paper and scribble away. That’s mainly what I do when I paint, I just scribble with my papermate black pen and visualise what I can see from the random pen strokes!  I love sketching flowers, faces and human poses! So with that I let my imagination run a little wild.

What are the five words that people who know you would use to describe you?
Funny, Artistic , captivating , sensitive, creative and Bitchy lol!

 Inspirational Board

Tell us about your  current project  you are doing right now ?
Im working on 15 paintings at the moment ! I like to hav these paintings  around me and  to work on them as I see it! I'm  just finished a wedding dress and  due to start an evening dress. I'm also designing a 2011 dance wear range at the moment.

Describe a typical day in your studio space?
Typical day from 9-5  I have my design job. Designing ballroom and latin  dancewear! I design, patternmaking and cut . I love seeing my customer  and to design and illustrate for them so they can visualise what they want! I m working on a dance range and photo shoot at the moment also!  From 7-12.30 I would sketch on to paper or canvas and let my imagination go and at the same time I look at my other work and see what I can improve on them.

What is your biggest frustration as a designer & an artist?
The most annoying part is people who doesnt understand your work but they pretend they do! But when they asked for your advise and  they  are not listening to your advise!  But the most common frustrations would be time, there is never enough of it!

 Art & Design Studio

Tell us about how you prioritise your studio work.
At the moment I"m quite focused and separate my work and painting time ! I like to work like most watercolour artists is to work on a few  paintings a time and therefore you  meet your own deadline.

Can you please tell us about how do you connect with other artists, and your customers (i.e. how do you network)?
I do use the internet to do research and connecting with people  and go to art shows , seminars, designer markets and exihibitions

What advice can you offer other creative people who are just starting out and following their passions?
Believe in yourself, life is too short to be hold down by negative people!  Your  talent is yours to share with others!

What dreams do you still want to achieve or fulfil in your life?
I still want to be able to travel and paint and be able to make a great living as an artist and designer!

What is your proudest moment so far?
My proudest moment so far is  this year I have lots of help from great people. I am more intune with myself and  I'm confident , Im  focused, I will create more artworks and designs because I love what I do!

Who do you most want to meet and why?
I like to meet so many people! But reality is everyone you meet now can one day be your inspiration or inspired by you!

What is the most important lesson in life that you have learned?
This might sound like everyone’s answer but “Life is Short” Enjoy the most of it!

What book are you reading right now, and do you have a book you would like to recommend?
Oh yes I was away for the weekend in the Blue mountains Katoomba. I met a wonderful  author who shared  great stories about vintage fashion and Agatha christies. Anyway, Her name is Charlotte Smith. She has written two books called "Dreaming of Chanel !" and "Dreaming of Dior" Beautiful book and beautiful illustrations!
