A
workshop is a series of educational and work sessions. Usually in a small
groups of people meeting together over a short period of time to learn and gain
knowledge of art or design.
Another
way for Artists and designers to earn income is to use your skills and
expertise to teach in art or design workshops. This is a fantastic option to
make a good living as a creative educator. Running workshops also give you
great creditability and exposure to the creative community. It will also keep
you on the pulse with what is happening in the creative industries. As you
teach you grow as person and the people who you teach will also growth their
skills and knowledge too. That’s what we call a win win situation!
However,
teaching and running workshops is not for everyone. You need to enjoy teaching
and have the passion and the patience to share this with others.
The
key to success with workshops is to start with "YOU"; why you would
like to teach and what you would love to teach.
What it means to you?
·Define your skill & expertise
·Decide what to teach and what type of workshop you would like to
run.

Vinh Van Lam & Stuart Horrex are both very proud to
announce the ArtSHINE collaboration with Vibewire during 'Small Business
September'.
Founded
in 2000, Vibewire Youth Inc. is a dynamic non-profit organisation that supports
young people to effectively shape their world through media, arts and
entrepreneurial opportunities.
Vibewire acknowledges that across
the world young people are making important contributions as world citizens,
productive workers, entrepreneurs, consumers and agents of change.
The team at Vibewire are dedicated to encouraging and stimulating an
entrepreneurial spirit by unlocking the talents, imagination and creativity of
youth as drivers of change, addressing important economic, environmental
and social issues within our communities.
As founding partners of Quantum Compass, a boutique coaching practice based in

Flow for Creative Professionals:
Cash flow;
the life blood of any business. Discover seven key steps to ensuring the
cash flows in your creative art & design practice.
As
part of a small group in an informal workshop environment you can take the time
you need to explore how the cash flows in your creative art & design
practice. With real world examples and direct industry experience we'll
explore the ways your can measure, assess, and create cash flows in your
business.
While
this workshop is relevant to all established businesses, the focus is on
creative industry professionals (artists, graphic designers, interior
designers, decorators, fashion, textile, jewelers, etc)
Are you working full time but not sure for how much longer?
Are you wondering how to turn your passion, hobby, or skills into real income?
Are you ready to be your own boss but not quite sure where's the best
place to start? This is a workshop for those thinking of making a transition
from full-time employment to self employment. For some it means opening a
restaurant or cafe, for others it's becoming an artist or designer. It could be
a move into consulting, or using your skills, knowledge and experience for
your own profit and gain rather than for somebody else... But here's
the trap, and the danger... One of the biggest issues for most new start
businesses is cash flow. How many small businesses are profitable from day
one? How long could you survive with little or no income as
your business gets off the ground? We're here to show you another way!
As part of a small group in an informal workshop environment you can take the
time you need to explore how the cash flows in your business. With real
world examples and direct indusrty experience we'll explore the ways your can
measure, assess, and create cash flow. This workshop is relevant to all new
start, and small business intenders.
Now that you know how to reach your ideal customer it’s time to consider what marketing strategies you might use to get your message across. (And if you missed the last two chapters, please click on the below links)
Marketing Series: Define your Niche & Ideal customer
Here is a list of 19 different, but certainly not exhaustive, strategies you could consider:
Advertising (Radio, television, radio, print)
Affiliates and joint ventures
Affinity marketing
Barter
Catalogue marketing
Collaborative partners
Contra
Direct marketing
Event marketing
Frequent buyer programs
Internet
Newsletter
Outdoor media
Point of purpose (POP) and point of sale (POS)
Place based media
Promotions and cross promotions
Public relations (PR)
Referrals & Word of Mouth
Signage
That’s a lot of choice! The great news is you don’t have to use them all. In fact, just as with the seven distribution channels, you’ll usually find that just one or two of these methods will prove to be the most effective for your design practice in terms of both cost and response.
And as you test and measure the effectiveness of each strategy you’ll build the information you need to make that decision far easier. Once you have your lead generating strategy in place you’ll need to develop a tactical plan for the process.
So tune in for the next step “Choosing the Right Marketing Tactics for your Fashion Design Practice” in the next Wednesday.
And if you can’t wait till next week...

Want to know more about "Co-Working"; how it operates, and what it's all about? Looking to network with other solo small business operators and creative professionals? It's a workshop / networking event with a real difference!
Coinciding with the Pyrmont Farmer Markets held on the first Saturday of every month, and Small Business September, "Co-Working Net-Working" is an informal gathering of Creative Professionals, Small Business Owners, Solopreneurs, and casual Breakfasters in the inner Sydney area.
We'll meet at Pyrmont's Cafe XXII at 8.30am before the short walk to the Pyrmont Farmer Markets. Using funds we pool together ($15 each should cover it, but larger donations welcome!) we'll purchase our breakfast ingredients:
Once we've made our purchases we'll return to the Quantum Compass offices & seminar room in Harris Street for coffee, conversation, the cook up, and our common table breakfast.
We're also more than happy to include our Vegetarian friends too (if you're OK with our choices). So we can arrange a menu for Vegans, Ovo/Lacto Vegetarians & Vegequarians too.
It's a practical demonstration of co-operative business in action.
All surplus funds in the pool will be donated to StreetSmart Australia.
Over the course of the morning we'll discuss co-working and how it could work for you and your business.
This workshop is open to all.
