An exhibition of projects and thinking by Architectus (concerned with making public spaces) and Inkahoots (concerned with messages, knowledge and ideas) that explores the challenges of designing secure new habitation in a world of rapidly changing climate conditions. With much of the Asia-Pacific’s population concentrated along coastlines and/or river valleys, many in our region are vulnerable to severe (and increasing) climate events including sea level rise storms, tsunamis, cyclones, flooding and drought: Queensland is as vulnerable as Vanuatu or the Mekong or Indus Deltas. Answering the challenge means not only dealing with geographic and social ecologies, but processes of transition and change. The opportunity is to see design as a core social process, integrated with the governance, economic and ethical systems which allow the creation of desirable places.

  • Venue: Metro Arts Gallery 1

Electus Charisma – Hype as Object (presented under the pseudonym Co_Lab) explores the process of social buzz (hype) and how it evolves over a six-month period to influence the interest in, and critique of, a particular piece of work via industry endorsement. Within the theme of Opportunity, the project investigates the influence of hype on consumption, posing the question ‘at what point does the hype become more important than the work itself?’ and in turn, ‘does the work need to exist?’ It’s an invitation to critically reassess thinking the around promotion of product and the consumption of design.
